Our Salmon
All salmon grown here on our farm are Chinook salmon, the largest of the five species of the Pacific salmon genus. We stock fish near to original genetics… slow growing and tasty, as we have no need to pressure the fish to grow for maximum export yield. Our business is around 80% “Fishing Experience” and the rest is supply to local restaurants and cafes. We find families and school groups have a more satisfying fishing experience if the fish are not too big. We have no need for growth hormones or antibiotics here.
Our Environment
The Anatoki river is the life source of the salmon farm. The use of the water is regulated by our local council and monitored by a third party. We always stay within the limits of our resource consent and aim to disturb the local eco-system as less as possible. We use a “pooper-scooper” to haul out the river-silt/fish-manure mix of sludge and place it in large sieves, so then it can be bagged. Local gardeners collect the fish manure for free to use as fertilizer for composting.
Our Community
Anatoki Salmon is a locally owned family business since 2005. We love Golden Bay and dedicated to support our community the best we can:
We support the local “Wrinklies express” with donations.
We support local community clubs with free vouchers for raffles. (+$2000/year).
We donate free salmon to local initiatives, Mohua foodbank, schools and rest homes (+$4000/year).
We donate free manure and salmon waste to local gardeners.
